Energy and Atmosphere
EA1 Optimize Energy Performance - 1-5 points
OFS can manufacture furniture with energy efficient task lighting which can assist in the reduction of overall energy consumption of the building.
Materials and Resources
MR2. 1 Construction Waste Management: Divert 50% from Landfill - 1 point
OFS’ packaging materials include corrugated cardboard and gray polyethylene foam, both of which are 100% recyclable materials. The corrugated material provided is comprised of a linear between 30 and 60% recycled content and a medium comprised of 100% recycled content, which can be recycled in many markets throughout the United States.
MR2.2 Construction Waste Management: Divert 75% from Landfill - 1 point
OFS’ packaging materials include corrugated cardboard and gray polyethylene foam, both of which are 100% recyclable materials. The corrugated material provided is comprised of a linear between 30 and 60% recycled content and a medium comprised of 100% recycled content, which can be recycled in many markets throughout the United States.
MR4.1 Recycled Content 10% Post-consumer + 1 /2 Pre-consumer - 1 point
MR4.2 Recycle d Content 20% Postconsumer + 1 /2 Pre-consumer - 1 point (in addition to MR4.1)
Generally, OFS casegood products will meet and exceed these intent requirements qualifying for 2 LEED points with the total recycled content percentage meeting or exceeding the minimum required of 40% recycled content (20% as 1/2 pre-consumer, which meets the 20% requirement); however, the entire recycled content is comprised of pre-consumer material.
MR5 .1 Regional Materials 20% Manufactured Regionally - 1 point
When applicable to project location of final assembly, OFS manufactures or assembles our finished products within a 500 mile radius of the project site.
MR5.2 Regional Materials 10% Extracted and Manufactured Regionally - 1 point (in addition to MR5.1)
OFS utilizes raw materials extracted, harvested, or manufactured in the construction and assembly of our products from vendors within a 500 mile radius of the project site.
MR7 Certified Wood
OFS now offers many of its casegood and conference product lines as FSC certified.
Indoor Environmental Quality
EQ4.5 Low-Emitting Materials Systems Furniture and Seating , Option A-1 – 1 point
The GREENGUARD Environmental Institute has awarded its GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification® to OFS for all products within the wood veneer casegoods, laminate casegoods, guest, lounge and swivel seating collections. GREENGUARD certification deems these products as environmentally–friendly for indoor air applications, making a significant contribution to indoor air quality by meeting strict chemical and particle emission guidelines. Office furniture products meeting these allowable emission levels also meet the requirements of LEED credit 4.5 and the BIFMA X7.1 conformance standard.
EQ 6. 1 Controllability of Systems, Lighting – 1 point
OFS’ accessory task lighting options will contribute to this credit by providing the user or occupant the flexibility of adjusting the lighting within the space.
Innovation in Design
Innovation and Design credits are achieved
when a project exceeds a LEED® 2009– CI
or LEED® 2009– NC performance credit
through exemplary performance above
the requirements set by the LEED Green
Building Rating Systems and/or innovative
performance in Green Building categories
not specifically addressed by the LEED
Green Building Rating System. All ID credit
submissions are reviewed by the USGBC for
qualification and merit.
OFS’ company owned
transportation division, Styline Logistics, is a
voluntary participant in the EPA’s SmartWay
program. SmartWay Transport Partners
are commercial, industrial, and public
sector organizations that commit to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution
and to improve fuel efficiency of ground
freight transportation.
OFS has the capability to assist in
the reduction or offset of carbon emissions
representing a declination in carbon dioxide
(CO2) as applicable in qualified project
opportunities which are excluded from
achieving the LEED® 2009 CI or NC MR5.1
& 5.2 credits for Regional Materials outside
of the 500 mile radius, a leader in the fight
against climate change.
